Sustainable Learning: Department for Education and Skills. Creating opportunity, releasing potential, achieving excellence

Welcome

Your school can take back control of its energy and water use, reduce costs and make a difference by demonstrating citizenship, stewardship of finite resources and reducing the schools’ environmental impact. Simple methods and activities can be free to implement and can be a great way to make a start. This site will help you to take these steps by breaking these actions down into a number of more manageable tasks.

From 1st October 2008 schools in England where there are buildings with a floor area over 1000m2 are legally required to display an Energy Rating certificate showing energy performance on an A-G scale. The rating certificate will look a little like the A-G certificates you see on new fridges and washing machines.

If your school has buildings under this requirement you can download a certificate from this site to give you an indication of what your rating would be under the official process.  Schools applying for their Green Flag award can also use these A-G energy certificates as part of their evidence.  You can then use this site and the programme activities to help you reduce your energy use and improve your rating!
